Vehicle History

The Porsche 911 GT3 997.1 made its debut at the 2006 Geneva Motor Show as the track-focused version of the contemporary 911. Building on the philosophy of the previous 996 GT3, it introduced extensively revised engineering, greater performance and an even stronger emphasis on steering precision and mechanical purity.

From the outset, the GT3 was far more than simply a faster road-going 911. Its engineering was closely linked to Porsche motorsport, allowing it to perform seriously on circuit while remaining fully usable on the road.

Behind the rear axle sits a naturally aspirated 3.6-litre flat-six, commonly known as the Mezger engine and derived from Porsche’s competition powertrains. It produces 415 PS at 7,600 rpm and around 405 Nm of torque, sending power exclusively to the rear wheels through a six-speed manual gearbox.

The 997.1 GT3 accelerates from 0–100 km/h in approximately 4.3 seconds and reaches a top speed of around 310 km/h. More important than the figures is the character of the engine: exceptionally linear power delivery, immediate throttle response and a willingness to rev all the way to around 8,400 rpm.

The GT3 chassis differs substantially from that of a regular 911. Revised suspension, a wider track, PASM adaptive dampers and more aggressive chassis geometry give the car considerably greater precision and control.

Ride height is lower, the braking system is uprated and carbon-ceramic brakes were available as an option. The steering is exceptionally direct and communicative, transmitting a level of information from the front axle that has become increasingly rare in modern performance cars.

Its rear-engined layout gives the GT3 enormous traction, but also rewards a driver who understands weight transfer and approaches the car with precision.

The design is dictated largely by function. A large fixed rear wing, front splitter and aerodynamically optimised bodywork provide additional downforce, giving the GT3 a much more purposeful appearance than a standard Carrera without losing the clean proportions of the 911.

Inside, the emphasis is firmly on the driver. Sports seats, straightforward controls and a relatively restrained cabin reduce distraction and reinforce the car’s motorsport character.

The Porsche 911 GT3 997.1 represents an increasingly rare combination: a high-revving naturally aspirated engine, rear-wheel drive and a manual gearbox with relatively little electronic intervention.

Its Mezger engine, mechanical character and uncompromising focus on driver involvement have made the 997.1 GT3 one of the most respected modern Porsche models – and one of the defining analogue sports cars of its era.

Poznámka: v podkladech máš 406 Nm, zatímco běžně uváděná tovární hodnota pro 997.1 GT3 je 405 Nm. Pro finální web bych dal 415 PS / 405 Nm.
