Vehicle History

The Škoda Superb Edition 100 was introduced in 2005 as part of the Edition 100 anniversary range, created to celebrate 100 years since Václav Laurin and Václav Klement founded their company in Mladá Boleslav. Anniversary versions were also offered for the Fabia and Octavia, but the Superb sat at the very top of the range and represented the most luxurious Škoda available at the time.

The first modern-generation Superb itself arrived in 2001, reviving a name previously used by Škoda for its pre-war luxury cars.

Depending on market and specification, the Edition 100 could be ordered with several engines from the contemporary Superb range. Among the most distinctive were the 2.8-litre petrol V6 and the 2.5-litre V6 TDI, which in its later specification produced 163 PS.

Power was sent to the front wheels through either a manual or automatic transmission. The first-generation Superb used a Volkswagen Group platform with a longitudinally mounted engine and an extended wheelbase, giving it exceptional rear-seat space.

Much of the appeal of the Edition 100 lies in its distinctive specification and more luxurious presentation. One of its signature features is the set of 17-inch CUBIC alloy wheels, finished specifically for the anniversary model.

Rather than adopting an overtly sporting appearance, the Edition 100 remained deliberately elegant, with subtle details designed to underline its position as a special version of the Superb.

The interior is one of the strongest aspects of the Edition 100. Leather upholstery and distinctive gloss-black Piano trim create a more upmarket atmosphere than in conventional versions.

Depending on specification, equipment could include a premium audio system, multifunction steering wheel, telephone preparation, SunSet privacy glass, an electrically operated sunroof with solar cells, heated seats, rear parking sensors and an electrically operated rear sunblind.

By 2005 standards, the Superb Edition 100 offered an exceptionally high level of comfort and equipment, bringing Škoda closer than ever to established premium marques.

The underlying mechanical package remained that of the first-generation Superb, a car designed primarily around comfort and long-distance travel. Its extended wheelbase provided outstanding rear legroom, while the relatively soft suspension delivered a refined ride.

The Superb played an important role in returning Škoda to the upper end of the passenger-car market at the beginning of the new millennium and reviving the marque’s tradition of large, representative cars.

Production of the first modern Superb generation ended in 2008 after more than 136,000 examples had been built.

The exact number of Superb Edition 100 models produced has not been clearly documented in Škoda’s published materials. The anniversary version was offered only for a limited period, however, and its distinctive CUBIC wheels, luxurious interior and extensive equipment make it one of the less common specifications of the first-generation Superb.

The 2005 Škoda Superb Edition 100 represents a celebration of the first century of the Mladá Boleslav marque in the form of its most prestigious model of the period.

Combining the exceptional interior space of the first-generation Superb with exclusive equipment and understated anniversary details, it is now one of the more interesting and collectible versions of the original modern Superb – and a reminder of the period when Škoda firmly re-established itself as a manufacturer of large, comfortable executive cars.
